Zul’Gurub in Patch 10.0.7:
For those unaware, there were significant changes to Zul’Gurub in Patch 10.0.7. Bijous, Zandalar Coins, Transmog, and Ancient Recipes are back, so if you’re a collector, and missed out on this content, get collecting!
Blizzard had encrypted some files within the test phase of Patch 10.0.7 hence why those that tested the Patch never knew this was coming; well played, Blizzard!

Zul’Gurub (Pre-Nerf):
Zul’Gurub was a 20-man raid released in Patch 1.7 (World of Warcraft: Vanilla). There were 11 Raid Bosses, five of which were optional. Undoubtedly, the biggest attraction was the two extremely rare mounts: Swift Razzashi Raptor and the Swift Zulian Tiger.
I lost count of how many hours I wasted in this Raid back in Wrath of the Lich King. I never got hold of the mounts but managed to get a couple of the recipes and earn some of the Legacy achievements.
Zul’Gurub (Post Nerf):
However, Zul’Gurub experienced many changes during Cataclysm, none more so than the instance adjusted from a Raid into a five-person Heroic Dungeon. Additionally, all content was either reduced or removed. You can find Zul’Gurub in Stranglethorn Vale, Eastern Kingdoms, at the coordinates [71.32].
The Heroic five-person Dungeon consists of 9 bosses, four of which are optional (you’ll need 225 in Archaeology to summon 1 of the four bosses). Also scattered around the instance are notable NPCs that drop loot of interest, mainly sacks containing materials.
With the Dungeon set to Heroic difficulty, once you enter the instance, it will incur a 24-hour lockout, which resets at 11 am (N.A Region) or 8 am (E.U Region) server time. However, if you defeat a boss, you cannot reset the instance; killing other NPCs to farm items will not prevent you from resetting the instance.
Remember there is a soft lockout of 10 instances per one-hour period; you shouldn’t reach this limitation within Zul’Gurub.
The Gauntlet:
The only part of this dungeon that could hinder you if you don’t take care is The Gauntlet. As you progress toward Mandokir’s Domain, you will be met by a Berserking Boulder Roller. You must scale the hill and avoid the boulders.
If you get hit by one, you won’t suffer any direct damage; however, getting hit, you’ll be launched back down the hill and incur fall damage. The damage could kill you depending on how often you get hit or how far you get launched back.
Taking care here is the difference between a fast and efficient run and a run where you must run all the way back because you were clumsy and got killed! Check the map in the next section; The Gauntlet is outlined by a red box!
The Zul’Gurub Map:
Here’s a map outlining the positions of all the bosses and notable NPCs within the Dungeon: Zul’Gurub. Complete the dungeon in an anti-clockwise route for efficiency!
The Bosses:
Here are the bosses found within Heroic Zul’Gurub. The order of the bosses below follows an anti-clockwise route within the instance. Killing any of these bosses will prevent you from resetting the instance.
This a reminder that you will need level 225 or above in Archaeology to summon one of the four optional bosses above within the Cache of Madness. You must also defeat at least two bosses to start the encounter with the last boss: Jin’do the Godbreaker.
There will be an instance announcement when Jin’do is accessible!
Notable NPCs:
Here is a list of optional NPCs within Zul’Gurub in order of their location following an anti-clockwise route. Unlike the bosses above, you can still reset the instance if you kill these NPCs! Killing all these NPCs also grants the achievement: Gurubashi Headhunter.
Approximately ten Lost Offspring of Gahz’ranka swim around the Temple in the center of Zul-Gurub.
Unlocking the Zul’Gurub Content for 10.0.7!
To unlock this content, you must be level 70. Enter Heroic Zul’Gurub, and earn the achievement: Relics of a Fallen Empire. To get started, make your way to the temple in the middle of the instance. Two doorways lead to a chamber underneath the temple. Situated on the left-hand side of the gong (at the coordinates [49.41]), you’ll find a Shattered Hakkari Bijou.
Remember this location, as you’ll need to return to collect the other Bijou from the Spirit World (phase) during the final boss encounter.
Once looted, kill two bosses to activate the final boss: Jin’do the Godbreaker. Start the fight and get Jin’do to 0% health, triggering the second phase (Spirit World). During the phase, return to the gong, and you’ll find the Fragmented Hakkari Bijou.
Once you’ve defeated Hakkar (Jin’do the Godbreaker), use either Bijous to create a Restored Hakkari Bijou. You’ll now receive a quest: Restored Hakkari Bijou. Please go to Zandalaar (Yojamba Exchange) and find the NPC: Rin’wosho the Trader, located at the coordinates [54.86].
Upon completing the quest, you’ll receive an account-wide achievement: Relics of a Fallen Empire. This achievement will entitle all your characters on your account to earn progress toward the new Zul’Gurub content added in 10.0.7.
Although the prerequisite required you to be level 70 to complete, any future progress within Zul’Gurub to earn Bijous, Zandalar coins, Transmog, and Ancient Recipes can be acquired by a player at any level that can successfully enter the instance.
Rin’wosho the Trader:
Once you’ve completed the prerequisite, you’ll find Rin’wosho the Trader inside the Zul’Gurub instance. He is located at the coordinates [30.49]. He will now trade Ensembles (Transmog) and Recipes for Bijous and Zandalar Bargaining Tokens.
Toy – Brazier of Madness:
You must be level 70 to loot this toy and complete the achievement: Relics of the Fallen Empire. Within the Cache of Madness, there is an altar; on the left-hand side, there is a Brazier that you can click on; click the Brazier to acquire the toy: Brazier of Madness.
Farming Bijous and Zandalar Coins:
For those wondering, the Bijous and the Zandalar coins offer an alternative method to purchase Transmog, Recipes from Rin’wosho the Trader.
Bijous:
Bijous will drop from Bosses, Notable NPCs, caches, and a small chance from trash mobs. Thankfully, these Bijous are Account Bound, so you can freely transfer these to other players on your account. You can use Bijous to interact with bone piles to acquire Gurubashi Tribute, too!
Zandalar Coins:
The Zandalar coins mainly drop from the Gurubashi Workers, Refugees, and Villagers (trash mobs). You can easily farm these mobs by killing them and resetting the instance. However, you can buy and sell these coins at the Auction House.
Remember, I have a one-button macro for easily resetting your instance. If you’d prefer, I also have a YouTube video showing you how to create the macro.
These Zandalari coins average between 5g to 60g each, depending on the coin. The coins are also a region-wide commodity, so expect the amount available to increase over the next few weeks.
Once you’ve collected enough Zandalar coins, you can complete three repeatable quests with Rin’wosho the Trader. They all offer the same item: Zandalar Bargaining Token.
The Gurubashi Tribute:
To obtain a Gurubashi Tribute, you must obtain the toy: Brazier of Madness (which I mentioned earlier) and a Gurubashi Mojo Madness from an Alchemist. The potion can be bought and sold at the Auction House. And most importantly, a sufficient amount of Bijous to offer the bone piles.
Once you have all the items and are within Zul’Gurub, use the toy: Brazier of Madness, then use the potion: Gurubashi Mojo Madness; this will extinguish the Brazier making all mobs friendly and bone piles interactable within Zul’Gurub.
There are four bone piles; each pile requires two Bijous to earn a Gurubashi Tribute. If you don’t have the 2 Bijous required, you can offer three alternative Bijous. I’ve added a table below, showing where each of the four bone piles is and the required Bijous.
Contents of a Gurubashi Tribute:
Inside a Gurubashi Tribute, you can find Ancient Patterns for the following professions.
- Blacksmithing
- Enchanting
- Inscription
- Jewelcrafting
- Leatherworking
- Tailoring
If you don’t have these professions and manage to loot one (or more) of the Ancient Recipes, you can mail them to an alt or post them on the Auction House, as they’re not bind on pickup!
You’ll also obtain materials and Zandalar coins.
The Deadliest Cache:
Another notable option for obtaining Bijous and unobtainable drops is fishing. Fish for approximately 10 minutes with the buff: Mudskunk Aroma, and you’ll catch either the Waterlogged Gurubashi Cache or Jostled Gurubashi Cache. You do not need a specific fishing level to complete this.
Catching one of the caches will reward you with the achievement: Deadliest Cache. You can only catch one cache per character per day!
Out of the two caches, the Waterlogged Gurubashi Cache is the best. You can obtain four Bijous, materials, and potentially an unobtainable drop. The downside is you’ll need lockpicking to open it.
However, if you don’t have the profession or ability to lock pick it, you can get the talent: Kevin’s Keyring from the Soulbind: Plague Deviser. You will need to join the Necrolords!
Skinning:
Before Zul’Gurub got its nerf, Skinning was among the best gathering professions, as you could skin mobs to obtain Primal Bat Leather and Primal Tiger Leather. These materials were in high demand due to the crafts that needed them.
With the changes to Zul’Gurub in Patch 10.0.7, both materials have a demand again. However, it’s too soon to see the effect the changes will have on the value of the materials.

Conclusion:
I know this was another long-winded blog, but again, I wanted to be thorough. I love that Blizzard is reintroducing old content, especially something enjoyable in its day. The Zul’Gurub changes in Patch 10.0.7 give players that missed this content another shot at getting Transmog and Recipes they’ve previously missed.
Here’s hoping Blizzard continues down this path and makes other instances/content available again. It will make Old World continents populated again. If you don’t believe me, check out the people congregating outside Zul’Gurub.
