Hello! Welcome to the 279th edition of the WoW Economy Weekly Wrap-up!

This week we look at Trade Chat and highlight its discrepancies, problems and explore ways it could be improved. We also have unusual ways to make gold, a look at Token Prices and the Weekly Barter Brick quests.

My name is Samadan and I’ll be your guide through the World of Gold Making!

The Trade Chat Dilemma

The new profession system has been in place for quite a while now. People are advertising their wares via Trade Chat and spreading the word within their communities. However, the pace at which Trade Chat flows is highly dependent on server population (and faction within that server).

Just look at this image below showing the same timeframe snapshot of Trade Chat at the same time of day …

It’s clearly not an ideal solution for many, there’s either too much spam or too little. Players have a hard time matching up customer and profession master, some even getting reported as a way of discouraging them advertising ..

Hi all,

New to professions in Dragonflight and have been enjoying mostly enchanting crests for small but steady profit. I post a friendly message in Trade Chat (not General) every few minutes at peak times, tips are optional, and regardless of tip when I do each enchant I include a message thanking the person for their business. I enchanted ~ 70 crests this week, and everyone was really friendly and nice.

So I was surprised to get an automated message from Wow in-game yesterday that I’d “been reported for inappropriate language” since the only people I’ve talked to in-game this week were the friendly appreciative enchanted crest customers and a few close friends in M+. Never cursed etc, and conversation was entirely friendly and mutually appreciative.

It made me wonder if perhaps someone didn’t like me posting in Trade Chat, but everything I’ve read on the forums said posting professions offers in Trade Chat is fine. Did I miss something? I’ve really enjoyed Personal Work Orders and interacting with customers, but don’t want to get banned for it.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, this does seem to happen and there is little a player can do other than appeal and hope to return to service. It’s another of the flaws of the system.

I really wish the crafting order system provided some way for crafters to list their available services and earn visible reputation, so I could place an order with a specific person without having to already know they exist. I’d permanently leave Trade chat and be so much happier if that were a thing.

“At which point I prefer to use an easy-to-use directory to find someone reputable who can provide what I’m looking for.” what would be the ingame equivalent to this ?

Within your Guild, you can go to the Roster tab and change the drop-down from Achievements to Professions. Open up the craft-type and then select/search for the item you want crafting. Then click “View Crafters”. This will bring up a list of people in your guild who can craft the item & whether they are online or not. (However it doesn’t say what skill level/quality they can craft it too – that will require a conversation/mail exchange).

Like most things WoW, not the most elegant, and not everyone knows about it.

They could do something similar for “all the people currently in Valdrakken”.

This is actually a pretty decent idea, the shift from crafters hawking their wares en masse, hoping for a sale and those interested in getting something crafted and being able to search for someone online able to craft. Yes, they can ask in Trade Chat and get a whisper, but the balance is much more shifted to sellers shouting over each other.

It’s unfortunate that the tools are not quite there for what is arguably a complex profession system full of promise, but hampered by other systems like faction communication and trade chat.

Unusual Ways to Make Gold

Penguin2gt has an interesting video this week going through some of the less talked about methods of making gold in 10.1 …

There are some great ideas in there, particularly useful for some specific pets that are great sellers.

Token Prices & Race to World First

It’s always an interesting time for Token prices around the release of new content and with it the Race to World First. Interestingly, there was a much bigger jump for EU than NA for token prices…

Around now would be a pretty good time to buy tokens before Diablo IV releases in June.

Weekly Barter Brick Quests

These quests are proving to be a nice little gold earner for the player willing to jump into markets as soon as their realm comes up each week.

They are the same on EU as well as NA, so EU players get a heads up on what to expect as soon as NA comes up.

It didn’t just change “today”. It changes when someone knows of NA change, on week 2 that happened within minutes of NA being known. Sturdies are a bit different as they don’t stack so they aren’t region wide item in AH. On my server (EU) price doubled between 7:23 and 8:23 PM Tuesday. I guess that’s like 10 hrs before.

You can use this site to see when prices have changed. People are not waiting for EU server to come up to see the quests, that’s for sure.

Each week sees new opportunities, some region wide and some server specific. Certainly some good ways to make gold for those prepared to strike quickly.
