This week saw the release of Diablo IV and we look at it’s impact on the token price. We also look into some more methods for easy gold making, especially for those with a few characters and take a look at some AH basics for beginners and returning players. Plus, we have a look at some Classic gold making especially now there is a Token that can be used for game time.
My name is Samadan and I’ll be your guide through the World of Gold Making!
Easy Gold Making
One thing that has been difficult for many getting started with professions is that there are slim pickings until you have specialized enough and can advertise in your chosen market, an endeavor that usually takes a month or two to get going. u/Tiger2345678 has put together a handy table highlighting a few options that are possible to get into ..
Event | Frequency | Duration | Location | Profit | Drop Rate | Levels | Profession |
Alchemical Flavor Pocket | Weekly | 2 mins | The Azure Span(13,48) | 40-60k | 0.02 | 60+ | N/A |
Obsidian Cobraskin | Daily | 3 mins | Zaralek Cavern(44,47) | 10-15k | 0.2 | 60+ | Skinning |
Azureweave/Chronocloth | Weekly | 5 mins | N/A | 5-10k | N/A | 60+ | Tailoring |
Dracothyst | Weekly | 1 mins | N/A | 8-12k | N/A | 60+ | Alchemy |
Loamm Niffen Weekly | Weekly | 15 mins | Researchers Under Fire | 1.5k | N/A | 70 | N/A |
Dragonriding World Quests | bi-Weekly | 2 mins | N/A | 0.5k each | N/A | 60+ | N/A |
Shadowflame Essence | Weekly | 15mins | Fyrakk Assaults | 8-15k | 0.01 | 70 | N/A |
First 5 Raid boss for recipes | Weekly | 1-2 Hours | N/A | 50-200K | N/A | 70 | Tailoring/BS/Alchemy |
Artisan’s Mettle | Weekly | 1 min | N/A | 10-15k each | 3 crafts per week | 60+ | Alchemy/Enchanting/LW/BS |
Crafting Crest with Resourceful tool | N/A | 1 min – 100 hours | N/A | 5k | 0.1 | 60+ | Enchanting |
4X4 farm | N/A | N/A | N/A | 20-30k per hour | N/A | 70 | Tailoring |
Boost leveling | N/A | N/A | N/A | 100k per hour | N/A | 70 | N/A |
Crafting intermediate goods/Drump/Regants | N/A | N/A | N/A | 10%-20% | N/A | 60+ | BS/LW+Kul Tiran |
The price of mettle is profession dependent, the one choose was alchemy/enchanting recipes that sells region wde. The profit for Dracothyst is not per-craft but all crafts per session, for Alchemy it’s 10 crafts and for Tailoring it’s also 10 crafts but not 30 crafts.
With Dracothyst, previously they are kinda daily, but given the hotfix on the cooldown reset, currently would only attend to them on weekends when the price is higher, so you can craft them daily and post them on weekends.
have fun and good luck hunting.
This is really useful if you are looking for some inspiration on ideas to get set up with gold making. Obviously, it goes without saying some of the figures and times are not exact and more of an expectation of average. Plus, some of these still require a fairly extensive setup process
Artistan’s mettle is much harder to capitalize, because of barrier entry, but there are some recipes that will fetch you +5k gold per craft. Case in point tiered medallion of setting or some LW recipes.
In a similar vein, u/A_Unicycle asks “Outside of professions, what are some good activities to make gold with multiple level 70 alts?”
Years ago, I had moderate success farming old raids for transmog, but transmog is selling a *lot* slower now and doesn’t seem worth the effort unless I go ALL in.
I collect my twice-weekly dragon race gold on my alts and that’s a nice little trickle of raw gold + rep. Clearing out any nearby gold-related world quests are a nice bonus. Otherwise, I have one (level 50) alt parked at a rare spawn that I might kill every few days which saves me travel time. It just doesn’t seem as valuable to have multiple characters levelled currently. Have things changed that much?
Of course, this is all while I slowly accumulate enough knowledge points to build up my professions, where alts very much will help. This is just a slow process!
It’s a familiar story for many who especially like to have multiple alts they like to rotate through.
I sit on my monk and queue whatever pops the bonus bag. I hope for tank because I’ll pull the dungeon in as few pulls as possible and aoe the trash down. 10 mins for 2-4 runes that sell for 3500/ea
It’s decent money for a small time goblin
Just getting one is worth like 60k on my server. So for a 15 min a week farm I could get 60k.
Seems easy to me.
I don’t believe this translates into good g/hr though. I personally did this when the weekly 3k anima quest still awarded ~1.6k gold but as that reward was redirected to Loamm weekly, I think there’s no motive to do that quest anymore if you don’t care about gaining more rep on that char. The flavor pocket itself is nice but droprate is too low (~2%) for activity that otherwise rewards no gold. You end up spending a lot of time just moving there every week unless you park them there for good and do nothing else with them.
I could technically do that on 50 chars. If I tried to optimize heavily pocket farm, I’d on avg. get one per week and I’d do it over ~10x feasts, over 150 minutes. So 50k for 2.5hrs and that’s with assumption that I’d complete 5 chars per 15min and stunlock those chars to that spot for good.
If you get the chars above certain ilvl, you start seeing gold rewards for some WQs, most often for ones that would otherwise give rep. It’s not straight up ilvl requirement but all my chars went over the limit when they got 390 ilvl. Though sometimes I’ve started seeing best rewards already at 370 ilvl.
Then you just put wm on and do a round if there’s enough good weeklies. I also do dragonriding wqs if they happen to be nicely on the route.
Pre 10.1, I logged each char twice a week and earned around 10k gold per week for something like 30m work per char. I made sure to complete fields of ferocity questline while leveling and I often wait until I do dailies to point that Nokhud pvp daily is on with gold (1400g) reward. Though that doesn’t happen even every week. Either that or ferocity gold always get me moving on all my chars. Now it’s been a while since either has been active, 2 weeks or so.
Ofc just adapt, see if some mission is just not worth the trouble. Some of the “kill 100%” quests in bad areas are not worth it. Some are. Some dragonraces are way off, not worth it for that 520g. Some are right on your route. Just do what makes sense. Though if 20k/hr isn’t great in your eyes, then do not bother. WQs are never going to do better than that. Could be you won’t do more than 15k/hr.
There are certainly quite a few option here depending on your playstyle and what you find fun. Certainly not the huge numbers that we are used to and are still obtainable if you fully invest in the profession system and spend time marketing yourself.
Beginner Tips to Get More AH Sales
Penguin2gt has a great video this week going through some of the important changes to the Auction House over the years and how to make the most of your sales.
It’s aimed more at the beginner gold maker or returning player, but the concepts are important for the basis of gold making and well worth familiarizing yourself on.
The Price of DiabloIV
I wanted to bring this up as a gold making topic because it has direct relevance to to price of the WoW Token as player rush to exchange gold for Bnet Balance to buy the game.

This is the price rise over the past month for NA. In EU, the rise is less sharp, but it’s crept up to as of the time of writing.
Buying out all the cosmetics in my #DiabloIV shop is 40,600 Platinum (~$400) or 7.2 Million Gold from #Warcraft. 💰
Will there be even more stuff I’d have to buy in four days when the shop “refreshes?” 🤔 pic.twitter.com/Y8rgBeg0En

If you were to buy at today’s prices and rounding up tokens to match the number you’d need to purchase, the cost of Diablo IV would be …
Version | NA Price | UK Price |
Ultimate Edition | $99.99 | £89.99 |
Digital Deluxe Edition | $89.99 | £79.99 |
Standard Edition | $69.99 | £59.99 |
Still a large chunk of gold by any means, but certainly achievable for those that have accumulated masses over the years.
Epic Gems Coming in WotLK Classic Phase 3
The Lazy Goldmaker has an interesting post this week preparing for the next phase of WotLK Classic coming at the end of the month.
With the gems becoming available we also get a ton of new recipes to cut the new epic gems into spcketable gems.
Based on the current prices for gems and ore you would need epic gems to on average sell for 75 gold to break even on my realm. I would not be surprised to see significant demand at a much higher price than that, so to me this seems like a good potential investment. I’ll be updating the spreadsheet for prospecting with titanium prospecting as well, I have all the rates already, so stay tuned for that.
Now is an interesting time to be getting into Classic gold making especially now there is a Token for game time. I highly recommend reading the full post here.
