Storytelling

  • Unlike Mechagon, Dawn of the Infinite will move the plot of Dragonflight forward.
  • Dawn of the Infinite is also the first introduction of Galakrond to the game, looking back at the moment that he fell and what that caused to Azeroth. Leading to the reason the zone Dragonblight has that name.
  • Stephen highlighted that Dragonflight has two main storylines, one with the Incarnates and another is Chromie trying to stop Nozdormu from becoming Moruzond. The mega-dungeon is a mix of those storylines, using time travel as a way to show moments of Warcraft history that players may have never experienced in other media before.
  • Have you ever had to redesign an encounter due to lore reasons? Yes, a good example of it is in Dawn of the Infinite. Originally during the Iridikron fight it was Tyr that was helping the players, but, due to lore reasons, he couldn’t possibly be there at that time, so they swapped the companion of the fight to Chromie instead.

Infinite Tyr is used as a way to REALLY show the players that “they are not in Kansas anymore”, that the timeline they ended up in is really messed up.

Incarnates

  • The new mega-dungeon is a good opportunity to expand on the story of the Incarnates.
  • Iridikron is a different villain, he doesn’t underestimate you, he’s a planner, unlike Fyrakk who is more ‘explosive’ and rushes to action
  • The Incarnates do not see Galakrond as a martyr or as an ally, as they feared him, as well as the Aspects did.

Gameplay and Rewards

  • 10.1.7 will split the mega-dungeon into two for Heroic. It will enter the rotation in Season 3.
  • The experience of the dungeon will be different when it is split, with some narrative and other RP stuff being removed to better-fit M+, all the while keeping the core of the narrative.
  • Dawn of the Infinite will have end-of-heroic level loot since it is challenging as a raid for 5 players. Some of the items have interesting effects and tie well to the theme of time.
  • Infinite Tyr’s Hammer will be one of the cosmetic rewards.

Dawn of the Infinite Aftermath

  • Is there a chance we’ll see Morchie again in the future? The options there are infinite.

By the end of the Dawn of the Infinite, the Murozond story is finished, for now. However, there will be more quests following the dungeon. And this doesn’t mean the end of the Infinite Dragonflight.
The device that Iridikron uses to siphon Galakrond has properties similar to the Dragon Soul. It was forged by Neltharion and we will learn more about it in future updates.
