Raider.io Interview with Morgan Day and George Velev
Here’s a quick summary of the Raider.io interview:
Amirdrassil, the Dream’s Hope
- Raids will continue to launch with all difficulties unlocked simultaneously, instead of the traditional staggered release of Normal/Heroic and then Mythic a week later.
- Blizzard would love to for more raid content to be released without testing as a surprise, but their primary concern is the quality of the experience, and wanting to make sure it’s the best raid for everyone. They’re working towards that future, but though whether or not they’ll achieve it remains to be seen.
- Private auras will continue to be used in future raids, and Blizzard is working to make third party add-ons not truly required to defeat a raid boss. They also removed the “Mini-map tech” used on Echo of Neltharion, so that won’t be something used in other encounters going forward.
Mythic+
- Blizzard wants to put less emphasis on affixes, and more on the dungeons themselves.
- There are currently no plans for Dragonflight to add punishment for group leavers in Mythic+.
- Throne of the Tides has received significant changes and is “an entirely new dungeon” compared to Cataclysm.
- There are currently no plans for additional cosmetic rewards for Mythic+, but Blizzard wants to add something similar to the Vicious Mounts from PvP which only requires time investment instead of rating.
- Blizzard doesn’t want Augmentation Evoker to feel required at high Mythic+ levels, so they will be keeping a close eye on it’s strength and adjusting if necessary.
Design and Development
- Blizzard is interested in updating old content for The War Within and beyond.
- Blizzard is happy with the update frequency of Dragonflight, and it will be their goal moving forward. They are also grateful for the community feedback, which has been an important part of the design process since mid-Shadowlands.
