With so many mounts to collect, we decided to highlight some of our favorite and easy-to-obtain mounts for players looking to do something different during their holiday break.
Today’s highlight is Reins of Valiance! With this being the sixth entry in this year’s series, we wanted to highlight a special mount and remind people about the Return to Naxxramas secret that happened earlier this year.
Valiance is part of the return of Tier 3 items to Naxxramas in Patch 10.1.5 and requires you to complete previous steps to obtain it.
Valiance is the steed used by Thane Korth’azz, and according to the mount description, unlike most undead steeds who have their riders chosen for them, Valiance chose Korth’azz to ride it. Indeed, Valiance can be found by the stables at Instructor Razuvious’s room, and attempting to approach it will result in a knockback and Valiance saying, “The steed does not accept you as its rider”.
To obtain the Reins of Valiance mount, you need to do a couple of steps. You must have unlocked Zackett Skullsmash and his Tier 3 crafting wares, and you must do this in the 10-man version of Naxxramas, with Instructor Razuvious still alive.
NOTE: Almost all of the secrets of Naxxramas are account-wide, so if you do one step and happen to have killed Instructor Razuvious on one character, you can swap to an alt that has not and continue the secret from there!
The first thing you need to do is purchase a Rotten Delicious from Zackett Skullsmash for 30 Death’s Bargaining Chip. Once you have the Rotten Delicious apple, you need to go back to Valiance and slowly approach it while attempting to give the item. Once you’re able to do so, the steed will eat the rotten apple, but that will not be enough, as it will still refuse you as its rider.
After this, the next step of the secret is to head for the battle area where you fight Instructor Razuvious. If you are on the 10-man version of Naxxramas, you will see the boss, two Death Knight Understudy, and two Obedience Crystal pillars, which were used to mind control the Understudy adds during the original encounter.
Click on one of the obedience to mind control one of the Understudy adds, and bring the mind-controlled add to Valiance, which will, at that point, mount Valiance. Bring the mounted add back to Razuvious, and then break the mind control by clicking on the mind-controlled pet portrait and selecting “Dismiss”.
At that point, the add will be aggro’d on you. Kill the add and Instructor Razuvious, and he will drop the Reins of Valiance mount!
Did You Know?
Valiance’s model, the green recolor of the undead racial mount, is the mount used in Naxx40 by Thane Korth’azz. While this model has been in game since 2005, it was never made available to player until the Secrets of Naxxramas allowed players to craft T3 pieces and obtain this mount in 2023.
