World of Warcrafts Mythic+ dungeons will update in the past, as soon as the first Dragonflight season finishes, and Blizzard set to pass seasonal affixes.
Each season, WW’s dungeons were inspired by a unique mechanic that fit the season into harmony with the world and would evoke new years of music. Moving forward, however, seasonal affixes won’t be part of the Mythic+ experience.
In terms of the philosophy of the affixes, especially for season two, we really got a little back there and were looking at it very holistically, told Dot Esports associate director Morgan Day in a group interview. In reality, we’re just not going to have a level 10 (affix, meaning seasonal affix). Thundering won’t be replaced, and Thundering is being retired.
During the second season, dungeons will grow to a high standard in difficulty for keystones at 10 and higher, but some affix with seasonal ancestors can remain present in high-level dungeons.
This season, an affixes have been put under fire by the WoW community, the Thundering being one of the most targeted focuses of discussions. For many players, this extra-technical has proven counterintuitive to the entire Mythic+ experience, and proved more difficult than a gameplay enhancer.
Seasonal affixes were introduced first to WoW during the Battle for Azeroth expansion, and have become the first of the game’s core mechanics since. For players with high keystones, seasonal affixes were something that could be considered for continued success, even if there were other affixes present in a game on occasion.

We added seasons to try to solve the problem of dungeons. Like, there was a specific route, there was a specific way everybody approaches a dungeon, and seasons were there to just mix that up and change the way you approach the dungeons, We have kind of heard a lot of feedback around, really just complexity. What kind of stuff do I know, what do I know, and what do I do and what do it happen, and how many wrenches will you throw at me?
Out of the season’s affixes being removed, the WoW dev team hope to make Mythic+ dungeons a bit more simplistic by looking at keystone level seven’s affixes, which include Explosive, Grievous, Quaking, Storming and Volcanic. Players are indifferent, such as Quaking. For spellcasting classes and Forever which can be so dangerous at certain keystones that healers stop playing the game until its end of rotation. Over the course of the course of the game, affixes have become a huge problem despite the complex nature of the game’s character. In second season of Dragonflight and beyond, Blizzard hopes to take a deep look at the gameplay issues caused by the rotation of M+ affixes at all levels.
So [were] definitely looking at individual dungeons and really cutting a list of things that exist today in Mythic Zero and really asking like, even if affixes are in the mix, would you really need his pull to have three creatures all need to have a kick rotation? or so, as Day said.
While Blizzard hasn’t announced or revealed any set-in-stone details regarding an overhaul to low-level Mythic+ affixes, WoW players should expect that their runs in season two become a lot different from the previous season.
Season two of Dragonflight will launch later in 2023 along with WoW Patch 10.1: Emers of Neltharion.
