All the juicy information for 10.1 is dropping and with 10.0.7 around the corner, developments are coming thick and fast! This week, we take a look at what’s to come in 10.1 for crafters. We also look at a nice website for connecting players with crafting work orders and a possible niche gold making method with snowballs!

Crafting Changes coming in 10.1
Of course, the big news this week has been the changes coming in 10.1 with regarding professions. Penguin2gt has already written a great article covering the basic changes in Sparks and new recipes coming in 10.1. She also has a fantastic video going through what we know so far …
This is great to see an injection of new items and the systems we have seen in Shadowlands being repeated to keep gear relevant with Optional Reagents like the Titan Training Matrix V.
Enchanters seem to be coming out strong, but there is something for everyone with the new PVP armour crafts and glyphs
- Spark of Ingenuity will be replaced with the new Spark of Shadowflame in this upcoming patch
- there are 2 new infusions, Shadowflame Crests, that increase the item level of Epic Quality crafting gear. These 2 crests, Enchanted Whelpling’s Shadowflame Crest and the Titan Training Matrix V are all crafted by Enchanters
- Players no longer have to farm Primal Chaos, but they will be required to farm either type of spark to continue crafting their epic quality gear
I think it’s good to see that crafted gear will remain relevant in 10.1 with the new Spark. While there are some problems with the current crafting system that need to be addressed, I do think it has brought much more interest to crafting and professions from the general player base; and am glad to see it continue to be relevant into 10.1.
One thing that seems apparent is that with no changes to the specialization tree, it gives players a chance to fill out their profession while still remaining relevant and not feeling they have to chase the Knowledge Point trail with fear of missing out.
The system still heavily favours those who fully engage with the work order system and spend their time in Trade Chat marketing their wares. There are a few additions to help out the casual player who prefers to list things on the AH with Crafted PVP gear and toys and utility items, but the bulk of the nice items remain locked behind the Work Order system.
It works well, but if only there was a better way to connect players and crafters …

Like many sites or addons that try to connect players, they need to hit a critical mass point, so that they are active and in use on both ends for customers and players alike.
There are certainly lessons here that could be incorporated into the in-game work order system. If this was live in the crafting order window and a player could easily see who was online and what they could craft, it would make a massive difference to engagement.

It’s 1000 snowballs per hour, plus you can then craft them into Snow in a Cone and get the profit from that too. I did it for about 30 minutes and made ~15k gold off the Snowballs, and then another ~15k gold in profit from the Snow in a Cone crafts.
I imagine this kind of thing is open to abuse, so would expect it to get nerfed in some way, such as reducing the drop rate. It’s similar to fishing and vendor shuffles in terms of low key, gold trickle income.
