Patch 10.0.5 has brought with it white and grey transmog. From the elegant Noble’s Monocle to the flashy Diamond-Tipped Cane, fishing is one way to add several highly-coveted rare looks to your transmog collection!

Hooked on Style

If you’ve ever noticed a particularly well-dressed low-level character near the Auction House in a major city, there’s a strong chance you’ve run into a banking alt. Traditionally, these alts exist for no other purpose than to make gold, and are dressed in outfits that signal both their wealth and the fact that they never need to fight: rare, elegant, and usually white quality.

With white-quality transmog, the appearances for these items are now usable by all! Some of the rarest and most coveted can be obtained through fishing:

Be warned though, even though these appearances are now transmoggable, most of them are traditionally expensive for a very good reason!

Easiest to Obtain

While most of these appearances require a hefty grind combined with a lot of luck, one is a lot easier to obtain than the rest: Antique Silver Cufflinks. As of Shadowlands, these can be purchased directly from the Antique Vendor in Tazavesh, the Veiled Market. The vendor is right inside the entrance, on one of the boats – so there’s no need to fight any creatures to get this item. If you don’t see the cufflinks, exit the dungeon, reset all instances, and try again.

Fishing Supplies

Traditionally, all these items can be found in bags of fishing treasures. These bags are rewards from old fishing dailies, but they are also sold by Timewalking vendors.

Burning Crusade – Bag of Fishing Treasures

Wrath of the Lich King – Bag of Fishing Treasures

Draenor Garrisons

If you’d like to tackle all of these items at once, focus on an unlimited grind that doesn’t involve a lot of traveling, and don’t want to wait for Timewalking, then you may be interested in the Garrison grind instead!

This particular method requires a Warlords of Draenor Garrison with a Fishing Shack Level 3 – This can be a bit of a grind to unlock if you’ve never done it before, but if you need help, you can check out our Guide to the Garrison Fishing Shack here.

Once the shack is upgraded to Level 3, you have a chance to catch a Lunarfall Carp or Frostdeep Minnow in your Garrison’s water. Throwing it back into the water summons a Lunarfall Cavedweller or Frostdeep Cavedweller. These creatures have a chance to drop a variety of goods, from the extremely rare Riding Turtle and Sea Turtle to common Draenor fish, and they have a small chance to drop cosmetic items that can be found in Bag of Fishing Treasures and Bag of Fishing Treasures.

Unfortunately, the drop rates for all white-quality transmog items are extremely low – much lower than the drop rate from bags of fishing treasures – but they can all be worked on together without needing to wait for daily resets or Timewalking or to travel any further than your own Garrison. Fishing skill does affect the drop chance of special fish, so it’s worth maximizing yours as much as possible.

Blingtron 4000

Though this is hardly the most accessible or reliable farm, Engineers who have an old Blingtron 4000 may want to go back to summoning it daily. Not only does the Blingtron 4000 Gift Package have a small chance of containing a Noble’s Monocle or Antique Silver Cufflinks, it also has an absolutely tiny chance of dropping a High Society Top Hat – a newly-cosmetic item otherwise only obtainable through an extremely rare tailoring recipe!
