A Guide to Eon’s Fringe – Time Anomalies in Patch 10.1.5

Unlocking the Chronosmith

The short questline that unlocks this vendor can be picked up from Temporal Investigator Tempo at /way #2025 55.2 82.6. Though the time anomaly around Eon’s Fringe has dissipated, the Bronze Dragonflight still needs specialized assistance from a chronosmith – a bronze dragon charged with reforging, or repairing, that which has been damaged by temporal anomalies. In this short questline, we help the Chronosmith Ironus Coldsteel regain access to his forge and repair Seashellamayne, the blade of Finduin – Azmerloth’s Murloc version of Anduin Wrynn.

Completing the questline also rewards the Battle Pet Kabluey.

Dwarf Visage

Players can ask Ironos about his chosen visage form. He explains how his original form was that of an Earthen, and that he changed it to Dwarf to retire in Ironforge later.

lf I’m being truthful, it wasn’t me first choice!
I met the earthen during the construction of the Dragon Isles. A mighty folk! Their dedication to their forges and craft was admirable. So when my visage day came, I chose the form of an earthen.
Seemed especially fitting for a fledgling chronosmith.
But you’re a dwarf, not an earthen.
Well, you have to remember, the earthen buried deep and vanished after the Sundering shook the world.
Lifetimes past as I traversed the timeways. carrying out my charge as a chronosmith. When the time came for a group of fleshy, hairy earthen to emerge from Uldaman. I had forgotten how much I missed me old, long gone friends.
It took them a wee bit to get established. But when they did I took on a dwarven form, left the chronosmiths In good order, and decided to retire in Ironforge.
Before I was called back to the Dragon Isles. that is.

Will We See New Earthen Soon?

Ironos’s reply reminds us that there have been several hints that we will soon encounter an Earthen race that has evolved separately from but similar to Dwarves. In the Observational Report: Earthen lore book found in Uldaman: Legacy of Tyr, these earthen are mentioned to live deep underground, in an area named Khaz Algar.

One particularly notable variant can be found in the earthen contingent dispatched to investigate the fissure detected in Sector AR-938

In the course of their duties, these earthen began to manifest behaviors analogous to those which would one day be apparent in the self-styled dwarves, despite the two groups being separated by vast swaths of time and distance.

In fact, based on their origin dates, I could identify no corollary at all between these populations.

Yet while their behaviors, language, and demeanor show many similarities, (for example, assigning Sector AR-938 the colloquial name “Khaz Algar”), physiologically the two groups remain distant.

In the Return to the Forbidden Reach book A Song of the Depths, the Naga predict several events that we now see happening – we discuss that further in our Dawn of the Infinite finale analysis. One thing the book mentions is that the Harbinger – who we have theorized is Xal’atath – has journeyed to the “deep places” to gather the “children of the first flesh” to “reclaim what was lost”.

Even now, the Harbinger gathers the children of the first flesh to reclaim what was lost. They must remember their vows and serve those to whom they owe fealty.

While they toil in the deep places, we will journey to the shores of dragon lands, to the blessed isle where the Worldbreaker first embraced the whispers.
