By Fire Be Purged - Cleaning the Blizzard Orc Statue with FIRE!

Sadly you won’t see the Orc bathing in an epic jet of flame, but it’s actually a fairly common practice. Outdoor bronze and several types of stone sculptures are often waxed to protect them from the elements and prevent the deterioration of the material, and like anything, it needs to be cleaned periodically. To do this, dirt and grime is first removed with some kind of cleaning solvent and water, following which a propane torch or hot air gun is typically used to heat the element until old wax softens and runs enough to be wiped clean with a cloth. Applying new wax is done in a similar fashion, by heating the statue to the melting point of wax and rubbing or brushing it over, though it’s a more delicate process than it sounds – if done incorrectly the wax can create a milky looking surface and distort the colors.
