Nick van Dyk, who worked 9 years at Walt Disney Company as Senior Vice President Corporate Strategy & Business Development, arrived in 2014 to lead the Activision Blizzard Studio. In his LinkedIn profile, he lists the projects that he is currently working on, including one for Overwatch and one for Diablo:
Nick van Dyk
Executive producer of Diablo, a TV adaptation of Blizzard Entertainment’s IP, rendered in anime style. The show is currently in pre-production for distribution worldwide through Netflix.
The Diablo Animated Series has been in the works for a while, with the series being rumored by multiple sites since 2018, but this listing solidifies it. The 2018 rumors list the enormous success of Castlevania Series paving the way for more R-rated animation series on Netflix, which could soon include the new Diablo one.
Nick van Dyk
With my creative partner, developed and sold an animated series based Blizzard’s Overwatch franchise.
Overwatch has always eluded Blizzard fans with its intricate lore and high production animated shorts. While van Dyk doesn’t reveal who the rights of the IP animation were sold to, fans may soon have a more steady stream of Overwatch lore to consume if the animated series launches.
Besides Overwatch and Diablo, Nick van Dyk’s profile also lists his involvement with the Skylanders Academy TV adaptation and strategy for a Call of Duty cinematic and television universe.
It is important to note that all this information isn’t official and talk about projects that aren’t guaranteed to be finished and might be canceled before they ever see the light of day. However, it leaves us with hope for many different cool series that might sprout from Activision Blizzard in the future.
