Heirlooms in Dragonflight

Heirlooms in Dragonflight

If you’ve not noticed, Heirlooms in Dragonflight will have an upgrade token increasing the level requirement from level 59 to level 69; nice! Undoubtedly, a quality of life improvement for players leveling new characters or alts in the Dragon Isles.

Continue reading today’s blog post for more information!

Heirlooms:

Heirlooms are armor/weapon pieces that scale up in item level (ilvl) as your character levels up in-game. This option means less concern about obtaining gear as you level up.

I say less concern because there are slots that don’t have an Heirloom item. You will still need to obtain gear for the following pieces. Access your nearest Auction House (or Profession(s)) and purchase/craft the required pieces from the slots below.

  • Bracer
  • Gloves
  • Waist
  • Boots

Heirloom Set Bonuses:

Sadly, Heirlooms had a significant nerf in Shadowlands; the experience bonus was removed and replaced with set bonuses. However, the benefits of the gear increasing in ilvl as you level is still a great option.

Here’s a look at the bonuses based on the number of pieces you have equipped.

  • 2 Pieces: Rested experience consumption is reduced by 30%.
  • 4 Pieces: Increases your health generation while out of combat.
  • 5 Pieces: Whenever you level up, you activate a Burst of Knowledge, dealing AoE damage and giving you a 40% main stat bonus for 2 minutes. Killing enemies extends this buff up to 4 minutes.
  • 6 Pieces: Rested experience consumption is reduced by an additional 30%.

Heirlooms in Dragonflight:

Disappointingly, Heirlooms will scale to ilvl 189 for characters at level 60. To put this into perspective, a new Dracthyr can get an average ilvl of 250 once they’ve completed the Dracthyr starting zone: The Forbidden Reach.

Furthermore, I must remind you that the 10.1 Public Test Realm (PTR) has just begun; expect future changes depending on the player’s feedback. Please keep your eyes peeled for future Development Notes from Blizzard and updates from Wowhead, which do their best to keep players updated on changes in World of Warcraft.

You must purchase tokens from the Heirloom Curator for your Faction to upgrade your Heirloom pieces. If you’ve not unlocked your Heirlooms up to level 59, these will need unlocking before you can use these tokens below.

Currently, there appears to be no Scouting Map for the Dragon Isles on the PTR! If you’re unsure about Scouting Maps, these are a form of catch-up for alts and unlock flight paths within a specific continent.

With Dragonriding account-wide and specific to the Dragon Isles, Blizzard may ignore Scouting Maps for Dragonflight.

Heirloom Scaling throughout Dragonflight:

Here’s the ilvl of Heirloom armor and weapon pieces as you level up from 60 to 70 in the Dragon Isles.

Level ilvl
60 187
61 239
62 250
63 262
64 273
65 284
66 295
67 306
68 318
69 329

Conclusion:

Since the nerfs to Heirlooms in Shadowlands, they’re no longer considered overpowered. However, if you level alts and don’t want the added aggro of frequently checking your gear as you level, Heirlooms are still a viable option and come with some decent set bonuses.

I’m slightly disappointed at the scaling, especially the ilvl at level 60. ilvl 187 is considerably lower than that of a new level 60 Dracthyr. However, as a Gold-Maker, the Shadowlands Crafter’s Mark IV Gear and Uncommon Ilvl 232 BoE markets are still viable options!

Before I finish, I’ll take this opportunity to remind you that there could be further changes to the information posted within this blog. Blizzard has made an effort to make additional changes (in the past) based on the player’s feedback on the PTR. With that in mind, please check for updates on Blizzard’s Developmental Notes for Patch 10.1.
