“Make Love, Not Warcraft” appeared on the very first bracket, and ended up winning against episodes “Where My Country Gone?”, “Fat Butt & Pancake Head”, “Christian Rock Hard”, the “Imaginationland” trilogy and “Butters’ Bottom Bitch”, facing the also iconic episode “Scott Tenorman Must die” at the final showdown.
“Make Love, Not Warcraft” is iconic not only for the South Park franchise, but for WoW players as well, spawning many memes:
- The Sword of a Thousand Truths, a very overpowered sword featured in the episode, has the same model as The Hungering Cold from the original Naxxramas raid from Vanilla/Classic WoW.
The Wrath of the Lich King version of Naxxramas brought the model back with Slayer of the Lifeless, the name of the sword itself referencing the meme “How do you kill that which has no life?”. Salzman, mentioned on the item’s flavor text, was a Blizzard accountant in the episode who prophesized that one day those worthy of holding the sword would appear.
- Shadowlands added a new version of the sword with updated graphics of the sword with The Devouring Cold.
The name of the episode itself became a WoW achievement: Make Love, Not Warcraft.
Jarod “NWBZPWNR” Nandin, who tragically passed away in January due to complications from COVID-19, gained fame for his cosplay portrayal of Jenkins, the villain from the episode, at BlizzCon 2013.
Lead Cinematic Narrative Designer Terran Gregory also shared a few thoughts about working on this episode, as he was working for Blizzard for just a few months at the time of recording. Kyle’s in-game portrayal of the female Human Mage was done by him!
