No Mounting in the Maw
Throughout the Shadowlands Beta, players very quickly noticed that you can’t use any ground mounts in the Maw, making travel take very long. When asked about mounts in the Maw, Paul Kubit mentioned in an interview with Sloot some of the problems with mounting in the Maw, which includes mounting up and running through the dangers like the Eye of the Jailer debuff and never being able to fly in the Maw. The interview is a little old, but has some of their design philosophies.
Players have found some ways to get around the Maw faster.
- Druids with Travel Form at regular mount speed. you can even bring a friend with you.
- Creatures that you can kill to ride their mounts for 1 minute.
- The item Gunshoess and Oil of Ethereal Force.
- Speed Potions, which have now been level capped.
But other than Druids, none of these were great for long distance travel in the Maw.
Corridor Creeper Mount Can Mount in the Maw
Disclaimer: This is on the Shadowlands Beta and things may change before live.
This means that you can ride this mount as long as you want in the Maw, making travel much easier and take less time!
How long does the Corridor Creeper take to unlock? We asked Sanghelios and he mentioned that each layer of Twisted Corridors takes around 1 hour to 1.5 hours. There are 8 layers total, with the mount being rewarded for completing the 8th layer. This means that it’ll take around 8 to 12 hours, but the mount is account-wide and can be used on your other characters!

This interaction isn’t the first time Blizzard has done something like this. The Rustbolt Resistor prevented the HK-8 Aerial Oppression Unit from locking on to your flying mount.
With the recent changes to the broker Ve’nari to add sockets and upgrade your Conduit Ranks, it’s clear that you’ll want to spend lots of time in the Maw. However, your time in the Maw each day is limited due to the Eye of the Jailer debuff system which means time spent travelling is spent not farming Ve’nari reputation or grinding Stygia.
You’ll need to put in a little bit of work, but you’ll eventually get a payoff of reducing your travel time in the Maw, both at Max Level and while leveling. While leveling an alt, there is an intro scenario that takes place in the Maw, and some story quests between zones there as well. The Corridor Creeper also allows you to mount there!
Mounts that cannot be used will have the errors text “Your mount ignores the ignores your call within the Maw” and there may be other mounts that could also be used in the Maw. We haven’t confirmed anything but here is our speculation on some additional mounts that could be used in the Maw.
