Blizzard’s next update of Dragonflight comes in the form of Patch 10.2.5: Seeds of Renewal, and it will launch on the 16th of January 2024 (17th for E.U players)! Many players within the community felt the 2023 and 2024 roadmaps may have been optimistic, but hindsight has proven that Blizzard has done an excellent job pacing new content!
What’s Coming?
Below is a brief rundown of what to expect in Seeds of Renewal! While the testing phase is complete, be warned that there may be additional changes if there are any potential bugs on release.
- Dragonriding – Worldwide
- Follower Dungeons
- Azerothian Archives
- New Character Customizations
- Bel’ameth
- Gilneas Reclamation
- Holiday Update – Love is in the Air
Dragonriding (Worldwide):
Arguably, the most talked about addition to retail World of Warcraft is worldwide Dragonriding. Although it took some time to transition and learn the new mechanics, it quickly became integral to Dragonflight. With its success, Blizzard has made it possible for Dragonriding to be worldwide!
There are some instances where Dragonriding isn’t possible, for example, in non-flying zones like Eversong Woods and Ghostlands (Eastern Kingdoms). Where you can fly, be aware that you will incur a reduced flight speed when Dragonriding outside the Dragon Isles. Rest assured, you will still fly at double the current speed of a 310% flying mount.
The maximum flight speed in the Dragon Isles while Dragonriding is 830%; thanks to Blizzard’s adjustments, this base flight speed outside the Dragon Isles is reduced to 740% [source].
Follower Dungeons:
The most anticipated addition to Dragonflight is Follower Dungeons. Ideally, this will benefit solo players or players wishing to learn a new class/spec (within an instance). Follower Dungeons gives players the freedom to queue up with up to 3 friends, and whatever role or amount of players you’re lacking, AI will make up the difference.
For those unsure of AI-controlled players, I remind you of Island Expeditions or, more recently, AI-controlled players within Comp Stomp.
Ultimately, this means players can learn the mechanics of boss fights and comfortably pull packs at a pace suitable to the player instead of a party of experienced players that may be unforgiving and demanding. Removing the pressure of a standard dungeon experience gives the player(s) freedom to learn without potentially upsetting others and keeping to a relatable pace.
While this is limited to Dragonflight normal dungeons, I’d expect this to transition to normal dungeons in The War Within. However, I’d welcome the option to increase the difficulty to Mythic 0 and give players a footing on the Mythic+ ladder.
Azerothian Archives:
Upon the launch of Seeds of Renewal, head to the Roasted Ram inn within Valdrakken, and nailed to a pillar will be the quest: To The Archives. Accepting the quest will lead you to Algeth’ar Academy within Thaldraszus. You will be required to complete further quests. Rest assured, you don’t need to complete these to participate in the new weekly quest: The Big Dig.
Furthermore, if you open your map, look for the weekly quest: The Big Dig. Those willing to participate in the event will have 9 minutes to complete various tasks. Completing this event allows players to earn Mysterious Fragments; this will be the currency to purchase Battle Pets, Mounts, and Transmog.
Here’s a look at the items available from Provisioner Aristta (Algeth’ar Academy within Thaldraszus) for Mysterious Fragments. The stand-out item is the mount: Explorer’s Stonehide Packbeast, which will cost 20000 Mysterious Fragments.
Alternatively, there’s a one-for-one exchange of Mysterious Fragments via the Priceless Artifact; this item is bind on account and will send 1000 Mysterious Fragments to an alt.
2024 Roadmap:
Here’s a reminder of the roadmap ahead for 2024! What new additions are you looking forward to? I’m intrigued by the Timerunning: Pandamonium; oh, and is that a Skull and Crossbones?!
