For Season 2 of Dragonflight, Dargrul in Neltharion’s Lair received a few updates and buffs for his return to Mythic+ that may change how players wish to approach this encounter compared to his Legion version.

Dargrul Dragonflight Changes

First, while this is not a new mechanic, the damage that Dargrul inflicts from Magma Breaker is now much more significant than it used to be back in Legion. As such, excessive boss movement can now potentially lead to the death of group members, especially when combined with other sources of damage.

Second, the previously listed point is particularly relevant when summoned Molten Charskin enemies now also have the Magma Breaker ability with the exact same tuning; they did not have this ability back in Legion Mythic+. And so, Molten Charskin movement is now also something that can be dangerous for the group.

Third, back in Legion Mythic+ crowd control and knockback effects could be used on Molten Charskin enemies to either restrict their movement or to quickly knock them into Crystal Spikes (giving them the Crystal Cracked debuff) without them having an opportunity to move themselves (which would allow them to do more damage with Magma Breaker). However, Molten Charskin are now immune to both crowd control and knockback effects, making their movement unrestricted outside of the Magma Breaker debuff or a non-tank player attempting to tank their potentially lethal melee attacks for a period of time.

Strategy Adjustments

As for Dargrul himself, minimizing his movement is fairly straightforward and is controllable by the tank. The main thing to keep in mind is that, since Crystal Spikes spawn on the location of random players (with a preference for ranged players) and all melee players will eventually need to evacuate to a crystal spike to survive Magma Wave, spawning Crystal Spikes close to the boss (but not close enough for them to shatter from Landslide!) can help melee players to more effectively take cover and minimize boss movement coming out of his Magma Wave cast. That being said, putting Crystal Spikes close to the boss is particularly important for minimizing the impact of Molten Charskin enemies…

When Dargrul casts Magma Sculptor to summon a Molten Charskin, the summoning always occurs in the exact same position relative to where the boss is facing as marked by green symbols in the image below (thank you to YoDa for providing the base image!):

As such, by controlling the position and facing direct of Dargrul along with close enough Crystal Spikes, you can always summon a Molten Charskin directly on or extremely close to any Crystal Spikes in the area. That being said, dps and healer players may want to be mindful of any potential boss movement being performed to set this up, otherwise they may get caught in a Landslide cast.

Given the non-trivial health of Molten Charskin enemies, the limited stun duration of Magma Breaker, and the damage vulnerability provided by Magma Breaker. Focusing these enemies may be necessary to minimize any damage from Magma Breaker that could occur should they get the opportunity to begin moving again. If needed, you can plant a second set of Crystal Spikes close to a Molten Charskin to make use of as well, since you will still have a third set available to use for Magma Wave.

Conclusion

And so, given the changes made to Dargrul in Neltharion’s Lair for Season 2 of Dragonflight Mythic+, being mindful of your positioning to minimize the movement of both Dargrul and any Molten Charskin he summons can go a long way towards helping you successfully defeat this dungeon encounter.
