In one Eon’s Fringe questline, we help a Vulpera composer named Pedgi get over a creative slump. This questline rewards the cosmetic Gilded Sunglasses – dark-tinted glasses with golden frames.

Pedgi the Composer

The questline begins with Time, Signature, which can be picked up at /way #2025 52.4 81.8. Pedgi’s manager, Mechagnome Melly Teletone, asks us if we’ve ever heard of the famous composer, who was traveling through the Dragon Isles to research his latest song when he spotted the Bronze dragon Temporal Investigator Tempo.

Pedgi is taken by Tempo’s name and convinced that it means they can help with the song, but Tempo is too busy with the local anomalies to pay much attention to anything else. This sends Pedgi into… a bit of a spiral.

Pedgi says: It’s no use! I’m nothing to them! What was I thinking?
Melly Teletone says: Pedgi. Please.
Pedgi yells: I’m a speck of dust! I’m a worthless fraud!
Melly sighs.

Like most great artists, we learn that Pedgi is fueled by coffee – which helps him out of his slump a little.

Melly Teletone says: Pedgi. Please. You have to get up.
Pedgi says: I can’t. I’m dead. I’ve died.
Melly sighs.
Melly Teletone says: Do you want some coffee? Will that perk you up?
Pedgi says: Maybe.

We also learn that Pedgi and Melly use special musical tools, invented and tinkered with by Melly, to help with his compositions – Pedgi’s sunglasses can be used to observe musical rhythms, while Melly’s metronographer can be used to sync melodies. As it turns out, these tools have more practical uses as well. After successfully lifting Pedgi’s spirits,

Pedgi says: Okay. You’re right. I should go out there.
Melly Teletone says: That’s the spirit.
Pedgi says: I will find what I need for this piece!
Melly Teletone says: Exactly!
Pedgi yells: I am the greatest composer that ever lived!

We use the tools to help clear time anomalies in the area. As it turns out, they work great at sorting out anomalies – something that Melly finds particularly interesting.

How interesting that temporal energies are so similar to music. I wonder if the bronze dragonflight has ever conducted research on the subject…

In fact, we’re able to use the metronographer to slow down the energies of a particularly powerful enemy, making them easier to defeat. Pedgi also helps.

Melly Teletone says: Pedgi, you literally haven’t done anything this entire time.
Pedgi says: I’m moral support!
Melly Teletone yells: Wow, you did it!
Pedgi says: WE did it. Together. As a family!
Melly Teletone says: Sure, Pedgi.

In the end, it turns out Tempo is more than happy to speak with Pedgi, and is even a fan of his future work – the fact that he still has one of his greatest compositions ahead is information that the little Vulpera finds almost too much to handle.

Temporal Investigator Tempo says: Thank you for your help. I heard of all the work you have done.
Temporal Investigator Tempo says: Is there anything I can help you with?
Pedgi says: So, um, hi. My name’s Pedgi, and I’m a–
Temporal Investigator Tempo says: Oh, I know who you are.
Pedgi says: I… You do?
Temporal Investigator Tempo says: Of course! I’m a huge fan of your work.
Pedgi says: Really? Which of my pieces is your favorite?
Temporal Investigator Tempo says: Oh, ah… I don’t think you’ve written it yet. Best keep at it, hmm?
Pedgi faints.
Temporal Investigator Tempo says: So… how was it that I can help you?
Melly Teletone says: I think you’ve done enough.
Tempo laughs.

For our help, we’re rewarded with the Gilded Sunglasses cosmetic item – dark-tinted sunglasses similar to the Onyx Glare-Reducers, but with golden frames.

“The future’s so bright, I gotta wear shades.”

Subtle Hints at Other Support Classes?

While for the most part this questline is a cute story about helping a mildly over-dramatic musical artist gain the validation he craves, the timing of this questline could be read as very subtly hinting at future support classes.

Blizzard has stated that they may consider more support specs if Augmentation Evoker is a success, as we learned in Preheat’s Augmentation Evoker Q&A with senior game designer II Graham Berger. With that in mind, this questline does feel like it could be hinting at laying the groundwork for two long-requested classes – the bard class and the tinker class.

With her innovative inventions, Melly Teletone could easily be a Tinker, while Pedgi is obviously a Bard. Both characters act as support throughout the questline (moral support, in the case of Pedgi) while the player takes on enemies. The fact that temporal energies are similar to music suggests that music could be used to augment in the same way that Bronze magic is used by Augmentation Evokers.

That’s just speculation though. For now, we just have to say we love Pedgi and hope very much we get to learn more about this future famous composition that impresses even the Bronze Dragonflight one day.
