Little Scales Daycare

The questline begins with a drool-soaked note, delivered by the proto-drake whelpling Herald Flaps. The note explains a shortage of whelptenders and requests our help with a clutch of eggs that is nearly ready to hatch. To help us prepare, Head Egg-Tender Amella at the Ruby Life Pools sends us to several whelptenders for advice – giving us a chance to learn more about each dragonflight’s whelp-raising style.

Emerald Whelptender says: Spending time in the Dream is important to their growth, but green whelps ought not stay there too long.
Emerald Whelptender says: Being part of the waking world is sometimes hard for whelps. We must be their encouraging guides.
Bronze Whelptender says: Bronze whelptenders often find ourselves pulled in many different directions at times.
Bronze Whelptender says: Our greatest tool? Patience. Our journeys are not linear. How can we expect theirs to be?
Azure Whelptender says: Wisdom from a whelptender? Hmm, let me think…
Azure Whelptender says: Sometimes there are difficult lessons. That does not mean all lessons must be difficult ones. Have fun!
Ruby Whelptender says: Never underestimate the power of an appropriate snack.
Ruby Whelptender says: Sweets are enjoyable, but you never know when a dramatic sugar crash is around the corner.
Obsidian Whelptender says: Each whelp is incredibly precious to their flight. We must protect them from all dangers.
Obsidian Whelptender says: But supporting them in all things, no matter what… that is the calling of a whelptender.

Next, we’re sent to report to Agapanthus at Little Scales Daycare. Players may remember Agapanthus from Azsuna, where we helped the blue dragonspawn rescue several Azure whelps, including Emmigosa – who has since journeyed with her family to Azsuna. In fact, Agapanthus has a special dialogue for players who completed the Legion questline!

<NAME>?
I see the Legion didn’t kill you, either. HA! Good!
I hope Emmigosa is well.
<Ask what happened to Agapanthus’s wings.>
<Agapanthus snorts a laugh.>
The Legion happened.
But the whelps of Azsuna were safe in the end and that is what matters.

Agapanthus sets us to work helping out at the Daycare – fetching snacks, cleaning up, and organizing a class pet – until his new assistant Lasztak lets us know an Obsidian hatchling is ready to hatch! We need to prepare a comfortable nest – one that’s specifically designed for a Black Dragon whelpling.

To make sure it’s warm enough, we use coal from the Obsidian Citadel. Archivist Edress provides us with an Obsidian Gemstone – a symbol to remind the whelpling of her shining future. Since the Black Dragonflight’s history is rooted in Aberrus, we also want something from Zaralek Caverns – a Crystalline Shell. As for the egg itself, we collect it from the Ruby Life Pools so that we can hatch it before the Obsidian Oathstone.

By the end, our Obsidian Whelpling is happy and safe in its nest. From this point on, the whelpling questline has a daily cooldown, with new quests first helping us to bond with the Obsidian Whelpling before moving onto the Ruby whelpling and – presumably – whelplings from every Dragonflight. Eventually, a battle pet of every whelpling can be earned!
