Legendary Quest Markers
Shadowlands previously updated major campaign quest markers with a fancy shield to better differentiate them from normal side quests and help keep players on track during their adventures. Legendary quests have always stood out due to their bold orange color, but it seems that they will also become more distinguished.
These should certainly stand out better, irrespective of the color.
The better question is why is this update happening in Embers of Neltharion? So far, Dragonflight hasn’t featured any legendary items or associated questlines, and there’s no indication that Patch 10.1 will change that. Likewise, pre-alpha interviews confirmed that the developers were not planning any Shadowlands or Legion style legendary items for the latest expansion, although they didn’t rule out one-off items like Rae’shalare, Death’s Whisper, which could include legendary questlines like expansions of old.
The absence of legendary gear doesn’t necessarily mean we can’t still have a legendary questline either, perhaps leading to some other kind of unique reward. While there’s no indication of anything extraordinarily special in Embers of Neltharion that might fit, Blizzard has been encrypting more major questlines and rewards in order to preserve some of the surprise, so anything is possible. On the other hand, it could be as simple as the markers being finished and ready to implement right away, without any intention of using it in a new quest chain.
New Icons
We’ve also discovered a few new icons, some expected and some perhaps not. The most interesting one here is the inclusion of UI_MajorFaction_Shadowflame, which doesn’t seem related to new Niffen renown track, but could be the icon for a new reward somewhere.
These two icons are for the Zaralek Cavern exploration and Meta achievements.
The hat is clearly related to the Niffen, though the other two icons appear to be part of the faction UI panel, named Niffen and Shadowflame.
The final two icons are of a tabard and cloak used for PvP gear.
