Hello! Welcome to the 274th edition of the WoW Economy Weekly Wrap-up!

This week we look at what realistic numbers you can expect with gold making, especially at this point in the Expansion. We also have some great tips for prepping for 10.1 and take a look at the Token Price now that it has reached pre-Dragonflight levels.

My name is Samadan and I’ll be your guide through the World of Gold Making!

How Much Can You Realistically Make Right Now?

It’s one of those questions often asked and people are curious about reported earnings from other players and quite how they do it?

Is it really possible to farm 50k gold hour? and if so how difficult is it?

my youtube has started to show some farm videos and some are obvious clickbaits, so I wanted to know from people who actually play the game aiming to farm.

Disregarding the often returned comment of “just work an extra shift”, this is about making gold in the game, a pastime many find fun and rewarding focusing on the gold element.

The reality is that timing is everything. At this point in an expansion, pickings are incredibly slim from the perspective of farming.

  • Base herbs and Ores are at rock bottom prices and demand is low, same for skinning and meat/fish.
  • Old world transmog is possible, but it’s a slow process of building inventory and selling over time. Not a guaranteed figure per hour as it relies heavily on luck.
No, no farm is 50k gold an hour unless you’re cheesing the numbers by factoring in a random mog drop that hypothetically goes for 950k that no one will buy.

I’ve found that the most effective money-for-effort sales are running old-world dungeons and listing the mogs on my bank toon. I have about 500 or so mogs that I list every 2 days with no cutting or AH “play” because I’m just too lazy for that. I just TSM them, list them, sign into the toon later.

Given that doing so takes me a total of maybe 2-3 hours of effort and I’ll frequently make 150k or so, depending, I guess you could consider that “50k gold an hour.”

That’s the sort of mental gymnastics those sorts of things usually require. Currently, there’s no reliable farm that’s worth that much. It’s the end of a patch so no reagents are worth much because everything they can make is about to be outdated, or no one cares about content. Nearly anyone who wants AotC or KSM/KSH already has it, so no one cares about flasks or feasts or enchants. Some people are buying things for their alts, but gear isn’t going for much because we can get 395s within 5 minutes of hitting 70 on Forbidden Reach.

Your best bet for a reliable guaranteed income is farming profession mats. I’ve found that herbalism sells for the most on Writhebark. Mining sells Khaz’gorite ore for a good price, but it’s harder to find. Skinning doesn’t sell for very much because it’s a plentiful farm. Tailoring, in my experience, sells for the least on cloths.

All is not lost though! 10.1 is just around the corner and with that will be renewed interest in new items and raid consumables. There is much that can be done with Professions if you are prepared to put the time in to get up to speed and spend time in Trade Chat talking with customers.

Blacksmithing weapons is a good first target since you’re not limiting yourself to a certain armor type and literally everyone can use one of the BS weapons.

Leatherworking I think I see most requested is the flaming cowl and venom stomper boots. If you’re gearing up for 10.1 I would focus your knowledge points in being able to craft all of the regular armor pieces at the new 418 equivalent.

Jewelcrafting/Blacksmithing. 200k-250k/day average. Weekends are more busier. Used to be almost 400k/day mid February. Slowed down now

Gems+lariat+rings+shields+weapons+armor. Everything basically

My highest that I ever made was on a Sunday few weeks back. Almost 875k iirc. It has slowed down now for sure. Also I raid 3 days/week during peak time. So those days aren’t 200k but more like 100kish

For reference this is from today. 3.5 hours of play time. that does include rare farming. 2 x dungeons. afk here and there. 185k so far

On an average I would say 4 – 6 hours. I just login and use an addon called “AutoFlood”. I set it to send message in trade chat every 120 sec and watch shows or play other games on the side. If I get a whisper, I just alt tab and do stuff. Otherwise I’m not really playing playing, just sitting in the city and advertising.

Another thing to keep in mind, I crafted gear for a lot of people who are all playing a bunch of alts now. So I just get lucky that they keep returning to me and sending orders

For the alt armies, Dragon Races, Weekly Money Rewards & WQs can certainly get you a bit of income.

5k, per alt just from the dragon races. (5 races twice a week). Level 60 & up can race in 4 easily.

The race takes a minute or two, getting to them on the map takes a few minutes depending on your flying speed. In a few hours each week I can get 24 alts (level 60+) through 4 races, twice so it’s around 96k just flying.

For many the advice is highly dependent on what you enjoy doing. The above examples are quite varied in terms of gameplay.

Personally, I favour doing things in game that progress me forward overall in some way, so things get easier/quicker down the line. That way, I feel I’m gaining skill and progressing as opposed to direct gathering farms which are exchanging time for money.

Prep for 10.1

Penguin2gt has a great video this week going through some tips for getting ready for 10.1 with specific chapters relating to Enchanting and Alchemy along with possible investment opportunities.

Token Prices Back to Pre-Dragonflight Levels

Those following the WoW Token Price will have noticed its steady rise since the launch of the expansion and it has now hit the level it was at before the expansion launched …

Whenever there is a lull in the game, the demand for buying gold is less and those that have the gold will be cashing in for gametime and/or paying for other Blizzard releases .

New overwatch season today and people using their wow gold to buy tokens for battlenet currency to buy the battlepass would be my guess for the spike today.

Just wait until 10.1 launches. If people like it, you will see tokens down to 160k. If people don’t like it then tokens will probably go down to only 220k. After a month or so, token prices will start climbing slowly again and then you will get another sudden spike when a new Blizzard game/epxansion/gold sink becomes available.

The most efficient time to make gold and buy tokens is at the start of the expansion. If you have the time to focus during that period, that’s where the most gold is made and tokens are usually at their lowest. Cash in then and fill Bnet balance.

Obviously, not everyone has the time to do this, so different periods will be less efficient like now. If you can wait, see what happens after 10.1 launches and buy tokens/make gold then.

Dormant Primordial Fragments

A handy tip here comes from u/dpark-96 with a method for getting some extra Resonant Crystals

Found a quick flip today for the hundreds of Dormant Primordial Fragments you get from zskera vaults once you’ve finished your ring.

You can use them to buy additional Onyx Annulets from the vendor by the crusher, which you can then disenchant. You sometimes get vibrant shards which is worth less than just selling the rings but you mainly get resonant crystals.

I imagine both of these will also probably be worth more once 10.1 drops since enchanting mats are used for the new crafting sparks.

This will certainly be useful especially as Resonant Crystals have been steadily increasing in price this past month …
