Hello! Welcome to the 292nd edition of the WoW Economy Weekly Wrap-up!

This week we look at some customer interactions with Work Orders and discuss how the system could be improved. We also delve into some more old world material speculation for 10.1.7 and look at some novel ways to use Evokers to skill up professions and make gold!

My name is Samadan and I’ll be your guide through the World of Gold Making!

Customer Interactions with Work Orders

The whole point of the new profession system and work orders was to encourage and promote player to player interaction. This of course means that every interaction is different and not always positive.

Anyone else get verbally abused by people requesting crafts? If you decline an order people just go off on you. Feels a bit dehumanizing tbh. Like if someone tips 1g and submits a recraft with no mettle, I politely decline and tell them to please include the mettle, and they flip out.

Yes? I screenshot all my very positive interactions and the the negative ones. The amount of people who emphatically say thank you, call me a hero, say crafters are MVP, etc vastly outweigh the negative.

These are my worst interactions, and it’s honestly not a lot. In hindsight a lot of them aren’t as bad as they felt in the moment. https://imgur.com/a/Fe4r7mK

Some people are fine, they just don’t understand crafting: https://imgur.com/a/YyQbfCK

I also take the time to thank the really polite people who don’t end up being a customer. The people who message me to say “thanks I found someone else” don’t understand how much that goes towards not leaving me hanging since I need to switch crafters a lot.

I feel the system isn’t transparent enough.

As a customer (even recently) it feels like the first sets of crafters to make contact are all scammers. I couldn’t verify anything they were saying, there’s no way for me to see their true skill, I can’t tell what tool they’re using, I don’t know if they actually care about getting me a R5, etc

Now that I craft myself I understand what’s going up, but that doesn’t help all the people who don’t craft at all. So it ends up the “free” crafters seem to be the most trustworthy and that’s not necessarily the case.

Me personally I don’t mind tipping, I always tipped 5-30k depending on how much work I was making the person do. I understand the people who feel if they’re providing mats they shouldn’t have to pay anything else, but those people can match with the crafters who think they’re just pushing a button.

This week I started messaging customers things like this when it comes to T2 vs T3 mats vs embelllishments:

443| —–*—–|447

433|———*–|437

420|———–*|424

and I’ve gotten so many messages back saying “OMG that helps so much!” But like you’re saying I don’t expect that to be on demand information for the customer.

But just something like seeing the profession talent tree same way we can see their DPS/Healing/Tank tree for their spec. Or we can inspect people’s gear/weapons, let us inspect profession tool set-up too. Doesn’t even have to be in game, can put these stats on their armory page.

I think this really highlights the limitations of the system. It’s not terrible in itself, the added complexity is what many crafters have been asking for. The difficulty with the work order system is that customers are expected to understand it and value the crafters time accordingly.

What do you think? How have your interactions with customers been?

10.1.7 Potential Flipping Opportunity

u/Tyrsenus has identified a potential bump in prices for base items for people who are looking to cheaply get some of the new profession achievements in 10.1.7

10.1.7 will be adding new achievements for every primary profession. Each achievement is earned by doing 1500-2000 crafts, depending on the profession. List of new profession achievements on Wowhead.

There will be some players eager to complete these achievements, and they’ll be looking for the cheapest way to get these achievements done – which will increase demand for the commodities needed in the cheapest recipes. (I realize other players won’t care too.)

Below is a list of the crafts that I expect will be cheapest, and the trade goods needed for the cheapest crafts (the goods that I expect will be in more demand). This is all based on current market prices, which will fluctuate.

That’s a great list of items and would be nice to see some interest in old world materials. There are a couple of caveats to this though..

  • Commodities are region wide, so expect market to be difficult to flip without serious investment
  • With no known additional reward from these apart from the achievement, players may be less incentivised to rush and get these done and may just let them accrue organically through crafting.

Old Scarlet Monastery Gold Mking?

Recently, here on Wowhead some possible more information around an updated Old Scarlet Monastery has been datamined which hints at a return to more old world content and items like we have had with Naxxramas and Dire Maul.

Studen Albatroz has a nice little video going through the possibilities and what to look out for just in case more gets datamined..

These kind of reintroductions of old content have been great additions to the retail game allowing player to get hold of old patterns and items that have since been removed. It also creates nice little shifts and speculations in materials to open up more niches and possibilities for gold makers, even with the region wide auction house.

Using Evokers for Profession Skill & Gold Making

Getting profession skill points past 50 can be difficult for the solo style player. Once you have done the 5 Sparks Quests, alts can skip this questline at 60 and send out work orders to your alts to help them get those last skillups in professions. This can be done with fresh Evokers, but you are limited to one at a time on any one server. It can also apparently be done with class trial characters, but I’ve not tested that. u/ShiggyMoto has been wondering what else you could use your Evoker for to make gold before deleting it …

I’ve been creating evokers to get Sparks of Ingenuity which I then use in work orders for my alts to level up their professions. At a pretty casual pace, it takes me about thirty minutes from character creation to send orders. This nets me about fifteen skill points.

Instead of deleting the evoker when the orders are done, I figured I’d do a quick route around the Dragon Isles for raw gold. This includes the four dragon racing world quests, selling the Elegant Canvas Brush, and doing the community feast in Iskaara for a chance at the Alchemical Flavor Pocket.

This nets about 5000 gold in forty-five minutes. Obviously this isn’t incredible, but this is primarily for the profession skill ups, and being able to cover most of the work order material costs is just a bonus.

My question for the community is this: Are there any other quick one time treasures or events that could be added for gold, whether in Dragonflight or elsewhere, that are also fairly time efficient? The bulk of the gold comes after the evoker starting zone, so I figured adding a few extra stops could greatly increase the gold-time efficiency. I’m not expecting enough to make me want to create evokers all day, but any extra bit could be handy.

It’s an interesting use of an Evoker for sure. Not necessarily great for gold making due to the time limitations, but sometimes the casual solo player needs inventive ways to level up professions! (of course, you could always use the Darkmoon Faire for slow progression every month)
